In reality, he has mentored thousands of regular people on this topic and trained hundreds of elite achievers on it. Keep your attention and block off distractions.
Being intentional and being focused are essentially the same thing. Every task you do each day must be deliberate. Avoid becoming reactive. There’s a reason why so many experts advise against opening your email shortly after waking up: it puts you in a reactive frame of mind rather than a focused one that is based on purpose.
Block your day into 45 or 60 minute halves. Give yourself two to five minutes to regroup each time you get to the end of the block. Be mindful of this. Something to read. Put off your work. Recognize that you’ll be rested and prepared to tackle your chores when you return. By retaining your objective, you may keep your attention. If so, does it make sense? Cool.

It’s simpler than you would imagine. The discussion about work-life balance is ludicrous.
Too many individuals believe it is impossible to find the ideal work-life balance. If you’re thinking that, the war is already lost. There are so many very successful individuals I’ve met who have a flawless work-life balance that I can’t even begin to count them.
The ordinary American’s life is divided into three equal parts: working (30%), spending time with family (30%), and sleeping (30%). The remaining 10% is devoted to other activities. We all get the same amount of time with our families as we do at work. Therefore, time is not the issue; intention is.
We don’t give each aspect of our life the attention it deserves. We often focus too much on one thing, which makes the other things suffer and decline.
It could be helpful to split your life into 10 different categories and then score your happiness in each, Brendan said. He does the following every Sunday:
- intimate connections (marriage, partner, etc.)
According to him, “I have most of the people I coach do this exercise. They need to actually measure the balance they’re trying to strike. If one area is off, they purposefully address it the following week, giving more intention to their interactions. Then, when they come back the following week and rate themselves, they find they do much better. They feel more balanced.”
Another crucial issue is that if you work at something you find useless and uninteresting, you’ll never feel balanced. Find a more meaningful job or figure out why the work you’re doing is meaningful.
Go on a break
Let’s use a metaphor for a moment. Consider using weights. When lifting weights at the gym, you put out your all-out effort for a considerable amount of time. Then, you rest. The process is then repeated. You then relax, repeat, rest, and so on. Right? The reason you rest is simple: Your muscles require it in order to function effectively during the following set.
